Hand-stitched Embroidery, step-by-step workshops: 25th Oct Texture

Sunday Oct 25th
Hand-stitched Embroidery - step-by-step workshops:
TEXTURE in embroidery. Quilting: English, Italian and Trapunto. Dates back to ancient Egypt, India, Persia.
10 - 4 pm,
£42 per workshop

A series of monthly workshops, each one concentrating on a distinctive, traditional embroidery technique.

The course is designed to encourage experimentation and the creative use of stitch.

Each workshop is a hands-on, practical session with participants learning the key embroidery stitches used for each technique and then creating their own completed pieces of contemporary work.

You will be taught a wide range of stitches.
Handouts will be provided at every workshop.
Each session will include an inspiring powerpoint with examples of how the techniques are being used in a creative and contemporary way.

Course work includes keeping a sketchbook, drawing (don’t panic you don't need to be good at drawing!), researching and some private study.
The course is aimed at beginners and upwards, so previous experience is not necessary.

Each session is a stand-alone workshop.
However anyone able to attend all the sessions will experience the use of pattern, texture, and colour in embroidery, employing a wide range of stitches and will gain confidence in expressing their own ideas in stitichery.

The tutor, Liz Thomas, is an experienced teacher, textile artist and is passionate about embroidery. She has a BA Hons in Textiles/ Fashion, specialising in Embroidery, studying under Constance Howard and Christine Risley.
