Artisan Studio is an independent community resource managed by Pauline Stanley BA (Hons) Fine Art, RNMS, NNEB, SPDip A, who works with schools, museums, AONB’s, ArtsReach, festivals, teaches art internationally, visiting tutor at Art University Bournemouth.
Artisan received initial funding from Arts Council England - 1 year's start up costs.
This enabled Artisan to explore possibilities and grow in a very natural and organic way and work out a unique sustainable working model providing low cost weekly drop-in workshops supported financially by public weekend/evening specialist workshops.
We are now 18 months old, still in our developmental stage but have strong foundations and are viable long term.
Artisan offers a wide range of weekly courses for small groups with lots of of 1-1 attention:
Aspergers - Monday mornings 10 -12
Stroke and physical disability - Monday afternoon 2-4
Mental Health - Visions Group Wed 10 - 12
Learning Disability - Wed 1.30 - 3.30
ME/ Chronic Fatigue & Fibromyalgia Thursdays 2-4
Home Educating families
Tuesday 10 -12 for 5-10 year old
Tuesday 2-4pm for 10-16 year old
Friday 1-3pm for 5-10 year old
Each person is treated with great respect and care.
Each person really thrives at Artisan - in art but emotionally, socially, mentally and spiritually!! The children have blossomed and changed immensely!
Artisan believes that everyone should have access to a high standard of creative art, craft and textile workshops in a safe and supportive, non-judgmental studio space.
Weekend and evening specialist courses are open to all ages and abilities and include bookbinding, drawing, painting, printmaking, willow work, photography, textiles……..
People come from the Bournemouth area but also New Forest, Dorchester, Portsmouth, and most recently Warwickshire. It is a widely valued resource.
Course costs are kept as low as possible to make the courses affordable to all.
Parents and children often attend together for some quality time.
Working in collaboration with Bournemouth University ‘HeART’ who have just completed Stage 1 of a research project on the benefits of art for stroke patients. These stroke clients have now been referred to us and have joined our Monday afternoon stroke art group at 2-4pm. BU are about to commence Stage 2 with a second group and BU will refer the next group of participants to us too. BU Research Team are due to visit us.
Collaboration with Arts University Bournemouth
We work closely with AUB and we have 3 Arts University Bournemouth second year Fine Art Students on work experience with us.
Working in Collaboration with Bournemouth Libraries Service. Artisan is supported and respected by Bournemouth Libraries and receive invitations to exhibit Artisan Studio’s participants work in the second floor gallery area in Bournemouth Central Library. We have had two exhibitions so far.
Arts And Health Southwest Prize. We entered and were shortlisted for the the Arts and Health South West prize of £5k.

1 lady with depression and anxiety
We have had 3 young people who have gone on to get good paid employment after working with us.
Volunteers gain in confidence, happiness, experience and thrive in our gentle and supportive environment.
We get many referrals from social workers, health workers, police, GP’s, Community Teams, Neighbourhood Development Officers and other Arts Organisations.
Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival
In 2014 Artisan was part of Arts by the Sea Festival and will be offering free family workshops for it again this year.
We are supported by Bournemouth Police who are due to visit our next open evening with Mayor and Councillors etc in June. Info on Artisan is on the police website.
Artisan now has 16 generous, highly skilled and very lovely tutors under its umbrella.
Artisan is supported by the three Moordown Councillors and the previous Lady Mayoress attained our textile workshops.
We are respected and supported by Bournemouth Echo and receive weekly coverage of our activities and service.
